Turn off order texts
When an order is placed, Layout texts the person that it is placed, and texts again if the pickup time arrives later. Some applications tell the person themselves and want them to hear it only from one sender. Those applications can now switch these texts off.
What changed
The console's App details page has an Order texts setting. It is on for every application, and turning it off stops two texts:
- The text telling the person their order is placed.
- The later text with the pickup time, sent when the time arrives after the order was placed.
It covers every order your application starts, whether for users you provision or through an OAuth client you created, including orders already in flight whose text has not gone out. It never stops the text saying an order did not go through, an order code, an approval link, the receipt email or push notifications: a person who never hears that an order failed may order again and be charged twice. The Cart-ready text keeps its own setting. If Layout cannot read the setting, the texts are sent.
Why it matters
If your product already tells the person their order is placed and when to pick it up, they get one message from you instead of two from different senders.
What to do
Nothing, unless you want them off. If you turn them off, your application owns telling the person their order is placed and the pickup time: read them from order.placed, order.updated and GET /v1/orders/:id. Every text Layout can send, and which setting covers it, is in Texts Layout sends.
Breaking changes
None. The texts stay on until you turn them off.
