Turn off cart-ready texts

Console

When a cart is ready and nothing confirms or cancels it, Layout texts it to the person so the order is not lost. Some applications already carry the confirm in their own chat and want the person to hear only from them. Those applications can now switch the texts off.

What the texts are

  • About 15 seconds after a cart is ready, if nothing has confirmed or cancelled it, Layout texts the person the same cart from Layout's number: each item, the total and the card it goes on. They reply YES to place it.
  • If the cart is still waiting a few minutes later, Layout sends one reminder that asks for the same YES.
  • A cart already confirmed or cancelled gets no text, and neither does a number that opted out of Layout texts.

What changed

The console's App details page has a Cart-ready text setting. It is on for every application, and turning it off stops both the first text and the reminder.

  • It covers only the orders your application starts, whether for users you provision or through an OAuth client you created.
  • Before it switches off, the console asks you to confirm and shows the share of real orders placed on Layout in the last 30 days, outside a text conversation, that a reply to one of these texts placed, with the size of the sample it was measured across. When there are too few orders to measure, no figure is shown.
  • Turning it back on takes effect at once.
  • If Layout cannot read the setting, the text is sent. Only a setting you turned off silences it.

Why it matters

A person who missed your message would otherwise lose the cart, so the texts are worth keeping in most integrations, and the figure in the confirm step shows how much they catch. If your product already follows up on an unconfirmed cart itself, turning them off means the person gets one message from you instead of two from different senders.

What to do

Nothing, unless you want them off. We recommend keeping them on. See If the person misses the card.

Breaking changes

None. The texts stay on until you turn them off.
