# Stopped builds read as canceled

October 11, 2026 · MCP

When a person or Layout stops an order while its cart is still being built, the `order` tool's `status` action now answers with `build.status: "canceled"`, the stopped order's `orderId`, and a `userMessage` saying nothing was ordered or charged. Until now it could keep answering `building` for a minute or more after the stop.

## Why it matters

A status that keeps saying "building" after a stop invites the person, or your agent, to wait on an order that will never arrive, or to start the same one again.

## What to do

Treat `canceled` as terminal: stop polling that key and relay the `userMessage`. Start a new build only if the person asks for one. Nothing else changes.

## Breaking changes

None. `canceled` is a new value for `build.status` on a status read; every existing value means what it did.
