# Preselected choices on menus

When a restaurant preselects choices on an item, each option group on `POST /v1/menus` and the MCP `menu` tool now carries `defaults`: what the item comes with, written exactly as in `options`.

## What to do

Show the options in `defaults` as already selected. A group can have more than one. A required group without `defaults` still needs the person to pick.

When ordering, send the dish name alone if nothing changed, or the name and only what the person changed:

Don't list the defaults: Layout orders the item as it comes.

## Breaking changes

None. `defaults` is optional and absent when nothing is preselected.
