# Places lists open places only

October 10, 2026 · API · Breaking

[GET /v1/places](https://developer.layout.link/reference/api#get-v1-places) lists only restaurants that are open right now. A closed place, or one whose hours Layout does not hold, is never listed. When everything matching is shut, `places` is empty with `emptyBecause: "all_closed"`.

The `openNow` query parameter is gone, and so is the `notOpenNow` list that came back beside the open places. A request that still sends `openNow` is answered as if it had not, and is never refused. [GET /v1/places/:placeId](https://developer.layout.link/reference/api#get-v1-places-id) still reads any place, open or not.

## Why it matters

The list is where an order starts, and an order at a closed store is refused anyway. Offering one only sent the person down a path that could not finish.

## What to do

Stop reading `notOpenNow`. If you showed closed places from it, read them by id with `GET /v1/places/:placeId` instead. Sending `openNow` is harmless; drop it when convenient.

## Breaking changes

This shipped on 2026-10-09 inside version `2026-10-01` without this entry, which our [versioning policy](https://developer.layout.link/reference/versioning) says a removed field needs. `notOpenNow` is no longer sent, and `openNow` no longer changes the answer. Nothing that sends `openNow` is refused.
