Order notifications

Console

A person who has the Layout app saw Layout's Live Activity on their Lock Screen for an order your application started, even when you had turned Layout's order texts off to be the only one telling them. Now one setting covers all of it.

What changed

On App details, Order texts is now Order notifications. It is still on for every application. Turned off, for every order your application starts, it stops:

  • The text telling the person their order is placed, and the later text with the pickup time, as before.
  • Layout's push notification that the order is placed.
  • The Live Activity in the Layout app: building, ready to review, placing, placed and the courier's progress.

Turning off the Cart-ready text now also stops the Layout app's Live Activity from buzzing the person to review and place a ready cart. The card itself still moves along when Order notifications is on.

The text saying an order did not go through, order codes, approval links and the receipt email still go whatever the settings. A Live Activity already on the person's Lock Screen when you change the setting keeps running until that order ends.

Why it matters

If your product tells the person about their order, they now hear it only from you, on every surface, including the Layout app.

What to do

Nothing. Your setting carries over and applies on its own. The console endpoint is unchanged: PATCH /v1/console/apps/:appId/order-texts. Every text Layout can send, and which setting covers it, is in Texts Layout sends.

Breaking changes

None in the API. If you turned Order texts off and counted on Layout's push notification or Live Activity reaching people who have the Layout app, those stop too; tell the person yourself from order.placed and order.updated.
